Advertising

Advertising is an expensive but essential investment in the success of your business. Advertising tells the public about your salon/barbershop – the services the salon or barbershop performs, the quality of work you produce and any other good reasons why clients should visit your salon or barbershop. But by far the best form of advertising is word of mouth. Satisfied clients tell others about your salon/barbershop, as do unsatisfied clients.

Plan a yearly advertising budget and stick to it (refer to Writing a Marketing Plan on Page 10). Alternate expensive forms of advertising with inexpensive methods and measure the effectiveness of such advertising by asking people how they found out about your salon or barbershop. If one form of advertising works, repeat it. If something fails, don’t repeat it. Try surveying your clients yearly for their opinions about your services, image and advertising.

Logos

The H&BNZ logo is available to you as a member to include on any advertising for your salon or barbershop. This tells the public that you are a member of the Association and that they can trust you with their hair under the member guarantee.

Mail Out to Public

This involves sending flyers, price lists etc to prospective clients by post, encouraging them to try your services.

Magazines & Newspapers

Advertising in printed media can be very effective. Daily or weekly newspaper ads can create an image in the consumer’s mind through the repetition of your salon or barbershop name and logo. Magazines that reach the types of clientele you are trying to attract can also be effective.  Probably more suited to group, wide area or nationwide chains.

Television & Radio

Television & radio ads can be effective but are very costly. Probably more suited to group, wide area or nationwide chains.

Knowing your market

Before planning your yearly advertising budget think about ‘whom’ the clientele are that you are wanting to attract to your salon or barbershop. Direct your marketing to these people.
